Homestay

Have you ever considered living with an American family in their home? Schools sometimes offer homestay programs, and in these programs, you do just that. The cost usually runs from $550 to $700 per month, and the contract period may be for a semester, or for a year. Some homestay also provide transportation, but you have to pay an extra amount which is around $30 to $50 per month. If you are interested, contact your school for placement information.

  • Host family advises you about living in the U.S.
  • Improve your English
  • Host families provide transportation (sometimes).
  • Food is included
  • Utilities are included
  • Furnished ( includes a bed, chest of drawers or dresser, a couch or sofa, and a dining room table and chairs.)
Disadvantages
  • Can cost more than dorms and apartments
  • May be a long distance from campus
  • There may be rules, such as a curfew, noise restrictions, no overnight guests, etc.
  • You may have your own room, but have to share a bathroom
  • Less privacy
